ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- In what will be the third-to-last weekend of competition prior to the Big Ten Indoor Championships for the University of Michigan women's track and field team, numerous Wolverines will compete on Notre Dame's oversized track on Friday and Saturday (Feb. 7-8) at the Meyo Invitational in South Bend, Indiana.
Headlined by All-Americans Chloe Foster, Jade Harrison, Alice Hill and Aurora Rynda -- the latter of whom will be making her 2020 in-uniform debut -- select women from each of the event groups will compete in one of the Midwest's most prominent meets.
For many of the 22 women in the travel party, this will be their first competition of 2020 on the type of oversized, flat track that will host Big Tens on Feb. 28-29 at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. Notre Dame's track measures a fifth of a mile -- just shy of 322 meters -- with flat turns, compared to the banked 200-meter track housed within the world-class U-M Indoor Track Building.
Action will begin Friday at 4 p.m. in the field with a track program with several prelims and several finals set to kick off at 4:30 p.m. Saturday's track events will begin with a lower-seeded program at 9:45 a.m. and field events for Michigan at 10:30 a.m. Top seeded finals on the track will take place during a 2-4 p.m. broadcast window on the digital ACC Network Extra streaming platform.
The Wolverines will look to bolster their standing as the nation's No. 3 team at 800 meters and No. 5 team in the mile, according to the latest USTFCCCA rankings. Rynda will run in the maize and blue for the first time this season, entered at both 600 and 800 meters. She is the reigning Big Ten Indoor champion in the former, and ran a career-best 2:05.72 unattached just last week in the latter.
She will be joined by Hill and multiple-time Big Ten scorer Micaela DeGenero at 800 meters, with Hill also coming off a career-best 2:08.57 effort at the Power Five Invitational.
Hill may also elect to run the mile, an event in which she scored at the Big Ten Indoor Championships a year ago. True first-year collegian Amber Gall will be looking for a quick time after a collegiate personal-record 2:09.62 last weekend.
Led by a career-best 54.23 effort from Foster last weekend, the Wolverines' squad at 400 meters also is highly ranked nationally at No. 14. Foster will be joined by a resurgent Julia Hall and an emergent Emma Lane, who now both sit inside the top-10 in school history. Joining them for the first time in 2020 at the quarter-mile distance is school record-holder Harrison. She was the victor at 200 meters last week.
The four also are slated to combine for a 4x400 relay at the end of the meet, with the school-record 3:37.88 from 2018 potentially in danger of falling.
Headlining the jumps is long jumper Jeryne Fish, who will be looking to translate her newfound career-best speed in the 60 meters -- she slashed nearly a half-second off of her 60-meter personal record last weekend -- into more distance in the horizontal jump.
Erin Connor will represent the Michigan throws corps both in the weight throw and the shot put.
Wolverine Bites
