Cerdan, Pairone Earn All-Big Ten Honors

ROSEMONT, Ill. -- Senior Giulia Pairone and freshman Andrea Cerdan of the University of Michigan women's tennis team each earned All-Big Ten honors, the conference announced Wednesday (May 20).
Pairone was unanimously selected to the All-Big Ten team, marking the second straight season she has earned conference honors. She finished the season ranked No. 30 in singles by the ITA, the second-highest ranking in the Big Ten. She won 13 singles matches on the season, highlighted by winning the singles title at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships in the fall to earn a berth to the ITA Fall National Championships. During dual-match play, she primarily played at the top spot, winning a pair of matches.
Cerdan was one of two true freshmen to earn All-Big Ten honors after she ended the season with a No. 68 singles ranking. She won 13 matches on the year, seeing time at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 4 during dual-match action. She was the highest ranked freshman in the conference, picking up wins over four ranked players, highlighted by a straight-set win in the fall over No. 18 Christina Rosca of Vanderbilt. She also teamed up with junior Alyvia Jones to win the doubles title at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships. She was second on the team in doubles wins with 14.
Freshman Nicole Hammond was Michigan's sportsmanship honoree. Hammond led the Wolverines with 15 singles wins on the season, seeing time at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 during dual matches.
