ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan baseball redshirt senior captain Benjamin Keizer recently signed an undrafted free agent contract with the New York Yankees, becoming the seventh member of Team 154 to join the ProBlue ranks.
The Portage, Mich., native led the Wolverines in appearances in 2020, picking up a save and finishing with a 1-1 record in eight appearances. The southpaw also was a key member of the 2019 College World Series team's bullpen, setting the U-M record for appearances in a season. Keizer appeared in 34 games with a 4-1 record and two saves, none bigger than the Los Angeles Super Regional clincher against No. 1-ranked UCLA.
Keizer is the third undrafted free agent to sign this summer, joining fellow redshirt senior Matthew Schmidt, who signed with the Kansas City Royals, and junior Joe Donovan, who signed with the Cleveland Indians. The #BlueCrew saw Jeff Criswell (second round, Oakland Athletics), Jordan Nwogu (third round, Chicago Cubs), Jesse Franklin (third round, Atlanta Braves) and Jack Blomgren (fifth round, Colorado Rockies) selected in June's Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft.
