The seventh-ranked University of Michigan men's basketball team (11-1, 6-1 Big Ten) will square off against Maryland (8-6, 2-5 Big Ten) for the second time this season on Tuesday (Jan. 19) at Crisler Center. The game is scheduled for a 7:01 p.m. tipoff on FS1 with Lisa Byington (play-by-play) and Stephen Bardo (analyst) as the broadcast crew. Ushering in 2021, the Wolverines claimed an 84-73 victory over the Terrapins on New Year's Eve at the Xfinity Center.

Who are the Maryland Terrapins?
• Maryland (8-6, 2-5 Big Ten) comes to Ann Arbor fresh off a 100-58 victory over Wingate (DII, Jan. 15) in an added game after the Terrapins' game with Nebraska (Jan. 16) was postponed when the Cornhuskers paused for COVID protocols. So far, Maryland has four games canceled and one postponed this season due to the coronavirus pandemic.
• Maryland and Michigan meet for the second time this season after the Wolverines had an 84-73 victory at the Xfinity Center on New Year's Eve. The Terrapins are 0-3 in Big Ten games at home and 2-2 on the road. Those two road victories were upsets at No. 6 Wisconsin (70-64, Dec. 28) and at No. 12 Illinois (66-63, Jan. 12).
• Maryland added James Graham III at the end of December after he enrolled early and began practice on Dec. 30. He has played in three games, averaging 3.3 points, 3.0 rebounds in 9.0 minutes per game. He had a career-best 10 points against Wingate.
• The Terrapins are led by a trio of players, paced by junior guard Eric Ayala with 14.0 points per game. Sophomore forward Donta Scott is second in scoring with 12.9 points per game along with a team-best 7.0 rebounds, while junior guard Aaron Wiggins is third at 12.6 per game while adding 5.1 boards.
• Shooting 37.3 percent from long range as a team, the Terrapins' top-scoring trio accounts for 66 of 119 three-pointers (55 percent) -- Scott (24 on 52.2 percent shooting), Ayala (21, 33.9%) and Wiggins (21, 32.8%).
• As a team, Maryland averages 73.7 points and 34.8 rebounds per game.

• In its second holiday road game of the season, Michigan ushered in 2021 by pulling away in the second half at Maryland to win, 84-73. The Wolverines had an 11-minute, 32-9 run in the second half -- after trailing by four (54-50) with 15:04 left -- to take control of the game and go on to the victory at the Xfinity Center.
• In his homecoming, Hunter Dickinson posted his third career double-double with his 26 points and 11 rebounds. Franz Wagner followed with 19 points, draining three three-pointers, and Mike Smith had 16 points, six rebounds and six assists.
• U-M shot a season-high 58.8 percent from the field (30-for-51) and went 18-for-20 (90 percent) from the free throw line.
• Maryland made 13 three-pointers against U-M, including knocking down nine in the first half. Donta Scott led the Terrapins with 19 points as he was 5-for-5 from deep.
• The Wolverines played a seven-man rotation during the road victory. The last time U-M played just seven men was against Penn State on Jan. 22, 2020 -- a 72-63 setback.
The Series with Maryland
• Tuesday's game will be the 17th all-time meeting between Michigan and Maryland. Michigan leads in the all-time series, 9-7. U-M holds a 4-1 record in Ann Arbor, including three wins in the last four at Crisler Center. The Wolverines have a 4-5 mark in games in College Park, Md., and are 1-1 in neutral-site games, with the last meeting in December 2000 at the BB&T Classic in Washington, D.C.
• There have been three games when both were ranked among the nation's top 25, with the U-M leading, 2-1. During the 2018-19 season, No. 6 Michigan pulled off a 65-52 victory over No. 24 Maryland at Crisler Center on Feb. 16, 2019 and followed with a second straight win as the No. 9 Wolverines earned a 69-62 road win over the No. 17 Terrapins on March 3, 2019. The third ranked match-up saw No. 9 Maryland defeated No. 25 Michigan, 83-70, to win its first ever Big Ten title on March 8, 2020 at the Xfinity Center.
• There have been two games decided by three points or fewer with U-M leading, 2-0. The last time was a dramatic 68-67 win for U-M at Crisler Center on Jan. 15, 2018. After Kevin Huerter made a three-pointer with three seconds left to give Maryland a 67-66 lead, a driving Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman was fouled by Bruno Fernando with one second left. He drained both free throws, and the Wolverines escaped with the win.
• There has never been an overtime game in the all-time series

A Familiar Face
• When U-M hosts Maryland, the Wolverines will be reunited with Terrapins assistant coach DeAndre Haynes, who spent two seasons as an assistant with U-M (2017-19).
• During his time with U-M, Haynes helped the Wolverines to a 63-15 record with two straight 30+ win seasons, including a school-record 33 wins in 2017-18.
• U-M won the 2018 Big Ten Tournament -- its second straight title -- and made a trip to the Final Four and NCAA championship game against Villanova. The following season U-M advanced to its third straight Big Ten Tournament title game as well as the NCAA Sweet 16 for a third straight year.
Perfect Material for the Broadcast
• Michigan's season-starting 11-game winning streak was snapped with a 75-57 loss at No. 23 Minnesota (Jan. 16).
• Juwan Howard has started out strong in each of his two seasons at his alma mater. Michigan started 7-0 last season, winning the Battle 4 Atlantis -- with wins over No. 6 North Carolina and No. 8 Gonzaga -- and vaulting to No. 4 in the nation (largest jump in the poll's history) before falling at No. 1 Louisville (ACC/B1G Challenge).
• In this year's streak, U-M won all five on its non-conference games and opened with six straight Big Ten victories, including becoming the first college basketball program to defeat three straight ranked opponents by 19+ points in each game. The Maize and Blue went from unranked to as high as No. 7 in the AP poll.
• Eli Brooks missed U-M's game at Minnesota (Jan. 16) with a strained right foot suffered in practice. He is listed as day-to-day and will be a game-time decision aaginst Maryland.
• Michigan is 9-0 at Crisler Center this season and has won its last 10 in its home arena.
• Chaundee Brown Jr., who started in Brooks' place, needs just 11 points to reach 1,000 in his collegiate career. In three seasons at Wake Forest he scored 876 points (10.4 ppg).
• Hunter Dickinson leads U-M in scoring (16.8), rebounding (7.7) and blocks (1.4). He has been named the Big Ten's Freshman of the Week five times.
• Dickinson leads the Big Ten and is third nationally in field goal percentage at 71.3 (82-for-115). He trails American's Stacy Beckton Jr. (76.9%, 10-for-13, 1G) and Grand Canyon's Asbjorn Midtgaard (73.1%, 68-for-93, 11G). Players must have a minimum of 5.0 FGM per game to qualify for the national ranking.
• Mike Smith has six straight games of 6+ assists, including a career-high 10 at Minnesota (Jan. 16). Overall, he leads U-M and Big Ten with a 5.8 average and is 25th nationally. In fact, he has posted 3+ assists in all 12 games.
• Smith has shot 11-for-19 (57.8 percent) from the three-point line after starting the season going 1-for-9 from deep (four games). Overall he is shooting 42.9 percent from long range.
• U-M is shooting 51.4 percent from the field, leading the Big Ten and ranking 10th nationally. The Wolverines are second best in the league with a 76.3 percent mark from the free throw line -- 34th nationally. U-M has scored 80+ points in nine games and averages 79.9 per game, which is third in the Big Ten and 49th nationally.
