DALLAS, Texas -- The University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team secured first place at the SMU Classic on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 9) at the Robson and Lindley Aquatics Center in dominant fashion, topping the field with 356 points.
Michigan won five events on day two of competition, starting with the 200-yard medley relay. Casey Chung, Letitia Sim, Maggie MacNeil and Lindsay Flynn combined to finish in 1:37.66.
U-M's first individual win of the second day came in the 200-yard breaststroke from Sim, who touched the wall in 2:09.08. Chung took the 200-yard backstroke with a 1:55.09, while Kathryn Ackerman turned in a 1:56.11 in the B Final. All three earned NCAA 'B' cuts in their respective events.
After diver Allie Klein claimed second place in the 3-meter with a NCAA Zone-qualifying score of 302.85, the Wolverines got first-place finishes from MacNeil in the 100-yard freestyle (48.73) and Ackerman in the 200-yard IM (1:58.16). Flynn, competing in the B Final of the 100 free, turned in the meet's second-best time of 48.84.
Three other second-place finishes helped secure the victory for the Wolverines, as Sims finished second in the 500-yard freestyle with a 4:47.11, and Victoria Kwan touched the wall in 1:58.38 in the 200-yard butterfly.
The Wolverines also took second in the 200-yard freestyle relay to wrap up the meet as MacNeil, Chung, Megan Glass and Flynn completed the final race in 1:29.91.
Michigan will return to action on Friday, Nov. 5, at 2 p.m. when they take on Missouri and Purdue at the Boilermakers' November Triple Dual in West Lafayette, Ind.
