LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Senior Nikki Canale earned a trip to nationals on Sunday (March 7) as the University of Michigan divers opened up the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships at Lancaster Aquatic Center. The women were on one-meter springboard, while the men were on three-meter springboard.
Women
Canale won a trip to the NCAA Championships with a fourth-place finish on one-meter (558.25). It will be her second career appearance after qualifying as a freshman in 2018.
Junior Allie Klein finished 12th (520.95) and will be able to dive one-meter at NCAAs should she qualify on either three-meter or platform. Sophomore Lucy Hogan was 12th (520.95), and sophomore Lauren Cheetham placed 18th (411.60), though she was unable to finish the final due to injury.
Senior Christy Cutshaw missed the final by one spot, taking 19th (245.75).
Men
Senior Ross Todd narrowly missed out on NCAA qualification, finishing in eighth on three-meter (727.50). The top seven were guaranteed spots at NCAAs. Todd was only .35 points behind Ohio State's Jacob Siler, who finished seventh. But by virtue of a top-12 finish, Todd can still dive three-meter at NCAAs should he qualify on another event.
Senior Chris Canning finished 14th (660.35).
The NCAA Zone C Diving Championships runs through Tuesday (March 9) inside Lancaster Aquatic Center. Monday's action will begin at 10:30 a.m. with the men on platform and the women on three-meter.
