JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The University of Michigan women's track and field team kicked off the two-day B1G North Florida Invitational at Jax Track at Hodges Stadium on Friday (April 2) with solid performances across the board.

Distance runners Lucy Petee and Annie Taylor -- a true first-year and graduate student, respectively -- were the top finishers on the day for the Wolverine women, while another first-year in Hannah Waller impressed both at 100 meters and in the long jump.

Petee claimed fifth place over 1,500 meters in her U-M outdoor debut, clocking 4:26.75, while Taylor marked her first competition since last year's Big Ten Indoor Championships -- she only had eligibility remaining outdoors in 2021 -- with a sixth-place effort at 800 meters in 2:11.68. A transfer from Cornell, it was also her U-M outdoor debut.

Waller opened her day with a strong seventh-place finish in the open section of the long jump at 5.82m (19 feet, 1.25 inches) for the best jump of her young career at Michigan. Later in the afternoon, she followed with an 11th-place finish in the 100 meter prelims in 11.84 (+1.8m/s wind) to move to No. 12 in school history at that distance.

Also in the sprints, Michaiah Thomas clinched the last berth into Saturday's 100-meter hurdles final by virtue of her ninth-place 14.12 (+2.3m/s) run in the prelims.

Action will resume for Michigan starting with the pole vault at noon and the track program beginning at 3:30 p.m.
