JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The University of Michigan women's track and field team was boosted by the return of two-time All-American and three-time Big Ten champion Aurora Rynda as the Wolverines closed out the final day of competition at the B1G North Florida Invitational on Saturday (April 3).
Rynda, who missed the indoor season, finished third overall in a tough 800-meter competition and beat four finalists from the 2021 Big Ten Indoor Championships. She crossed the line in 2:07.39.
She also ran a leg of the winning 4x800 relay that clocked 8:48.92, teaming up with Annie Taylor, Lauren Fulcher and Lucy Petee.
Also in the distance events, the Wolverines got a 1-2-4 finish at the 3,000-meter distance as Samantha Saenz led the way in 9:39.80. Jessi Larson was runner-up in 9:47.78 in her first race since winning the 2019 USATF U20 title at 5,000 meters, and Julia Vanitvelt ran 9:56.03 for third.
Michigan closed out the day and the weekend with another top-three finish from Amanda Schaare in the unseeded open section of the discus. Saving her best for last, she heaved the disc 51.35m (168 feet, 5 inches) for third place, also moving up a spot to No. 7 in school history in the process.
Between the open and invitational sections of the discus, Schaare had the eighth-best performance on the day, setting her up well to make a run at points at the Big Ten meet next month.
The Wolverines return to action next weekend, traveling to Bloomington, Ind., for the second of four visits this season for the B1G Indiana Invitational #2 on Friday and Saturday (April 9-10).
