COLUMBUS, Ohio -- With freshman Will Anderson tying a career best with a 71 (E) in the final round and tying for 18th, the University of Michigan men's golf team posted a closing 297 team total today (Sunday, April 25) to finish 13th with an 895 54-hole total at Ohio State's Robert Kepler Intercollegiate played at OSU Golf Club's Scarlet Course.
As the Wolverines headed to Columbus for their regular-season finale, U-M used a 72 (+1) from junior Patrick Sullivan in the first round and another 72 (+1) from graduate student Brent Ito in the second round to post back-to-back team totals of 299 in Saturday's first day to position the Maize and Blue 13th with a 598 36-hole total.
With back-to-back birdies on Nos. 16 and 17, Anderson was able to card an even par 71 in the final round, while Sullivan and Ito had 74s (+3) helping U-M close with a 297 total.
With that final-round tally, Anderson led the Wolverines for the second time this season as he tied for 18th with a 218 (73-74-71) total. Sullivan followed with his second top-25 individual finish this season as he tied for 25th at 220 (72-74-74). Ito rounded out the Wolverines' top three after he tied for 36th at 221 (75-72-74).
With the regular season now complete, the Wolverines shift their focus to the postseason starting with the Big Ten Championships, Friday through Sunday, April 30-May 2. The three-day, 54-hole event heads to Carmel, Indiana, at the Crooked Stick Golf Course. The championships will be played at a neutral site for the 10th straight year.
