Things to Know
• This event marks the conclusion of the regular season, but preparations have already begun for the spring championships run with the Big Ten Championships (May 16) on the horizon.
• U-M sits at No. 5 in the CRCA/USRowing Coaches' Poll, moving up from recent weeks. The Wolverines have the second-best ranking of any Big Ten program. Rutgers is ranked fourth.
• Overall, the Big Ten has an impressive six teams ranked in the top 20 nationally, including No. 4 Rutgers, No. 5 Michigan, No. 8 Ohio State, No. 10 Indiana, No. 14 Minnesota and No. 20 Wisconsin. U-M's 1V8 has wins over four of those teams this spring (U-M has not raced Minnesota), plus then-ranked No. 16 Iowa and Michigan State.
• The Wolverines' top boat also has picked up victories over No. 9 Tennessee, No. 16 SMU, No. 18 Washington State, No. 20 Syracuse, Notre Dame, and Louisville this spring.
• Last time on the water, the Wolverines raced in Ohio at the Big Ten vs. ACC Regatta, and U-M's varsity eights took a big step forward. Both boats beat Syracuse, Tennessee and Iowa, and placed second to Virginia (beating Ohio State), and Rutgers (beating Washington State) across three races.
• The U-M varsity fours swept the weekend, winning all nine races. Besides losses to Texas (April 10), the 2V4 and 3V4 have not lost, and the 1V4 avenged its only other loss (on opening weekend vs. No. 7 Virginia) later in the spring.
• The Big Ten conference announced last week that the venue for the Big Ten Championships has been moved from Baraboo, Wis., to Indianapolis, Ind., at the Indianapolis Rowing Center. Fan information is forthcoming.
