JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The University of Michigan men's track and field team closed out its weekend at the B1G North Florida Invitational on Saturday (April 3), saving the day's best for last in the meet-finale 4x400 relay.
With a runner-up 3:09.63 performance in the relay, the quartet of Roland Amarteifio, Dubem Amene, Ayden Owens and Austin Lin put the Wolverines right in the thick of the qualifying conversation for the NCAA East Preliminary rounds in May. The East Prelims serve as the gateway to advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships to be held this June in the renovated Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
The performance also appears to represent the earliest calendar date during the outdoor season in school history when the Wolverines have broken 3:10.00.
One day after finishing runner-up in his first outdoor competition in the maize and blue since the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Championships, Andrew Liskowitz followed up with a victory in the unseeded open section of the discus with a 51.28m (168 feet, 3 inches) heave. His mark was strong enough that it would have placed him seventh in the seeded invitational section that took place later in the afternoon.
Michigan got a top-five finish in the invitational section of the triple jump, as newcomer Bera Ajala was fifth with a leap of 14.82m (48-7.5).
The Wolverines return to action next weekend, traveling to Bloomington, Ind., for the second of four times this season for the B1G Indiana Invitational #2 on Friday and Saturday (April 9-10).
