Wolverine Bites
• Through two matches, U-M is outshooting opponents 94-26 and outscoring them 12-1. Both marks lead the Big Ten. Goals have come from seven different Wolverines, led by three from senior Nicki Hernandez and a pair from junior Hannah Blake.
• Hernandez is one goal shy of matching her scoring streak of four matches set at the beginning of the 2018 season. During that runs she scored four goals and overall has 20 career markers.
• Now in its 28th season as a varsity program, U-M has 298 wins.
• U-M's 4-0 start is the best in the four-year tenure of head coach Jennifer Klein. Michigan began the season 8-2 in 2019.
• Klein has spread minutes through the first four matches of the season, with zero players playing the full 360 minutes. Senior center back Sydney Shepherd has logged a team-high 323 minutes, followed by Hernandez at 269. Collectively, 20 players have played at least 100 minutes on the campaign.
• Michigan is ranked No. 24 in the latest edition of the United Soccer Coaches poll, released Tuesday (Aug. 31).
• Michigan is one of six unbeaten teams in the Big Ten, with a combined record of 35-11-4 at the end of week one.
Opponent Preview
USC
All-time series against the Trojans: USC leads, 4-0
The Trojans enter the week with a 1-2 overall mark after being ranked No. 25 in the week one United Soccer Coaches poll. Following a week that saw the Trojans fall to BYU 2-1 on Aug. 26 and defeat Utah Valley 4-2 on Aug. 28, USC fell out of the poll this week. Southern Cal's ledger also includes a 2-0 loss against Pepperdine on Aug. 19.
U-M head coach Jennifer Klein spent four seasons with the Trojans -- , three as associate head coach -- and won a national championship in 2016. That season, USC lost its first two games before an extraordinary run that saw it finish 19-4-2 and 8-2-1 in the challenging Pac-12 Conference.
The last meeting between the two teams was in 2009, a 2-1 loss in Los Angeles.
DePaul
All-time series against the Blue Demons: U-M leads, 1-0
The Blue Demons enter the week with a 2-1 mark with wins over Oakland (1-0, Aug. 26) and Illinois-Chicago (3-0, Aug. 29). Their lone defeat came in a 2-1 setback against Iowa on Aug. 19. Prior to taking on the Wolverines, DePaul will travel to Milwaukee on Thursday (Sept. 2).
In the lone meeting between the two programs, U-M took a 3-1 win on Sept. 28, 2011.
