
Michigan to Host Virginia Tech to Open Dual Season Schedule

The No. 17-ranked University of Michigan men's tennis team (0-0) begins the 2022 dual season on Sunday (Jan. 16) hosting Virginia Tech (0-1) at the Varsity Tennis Center. First serve is set for 5 p.m., following the conclusion of the Michigan Invitational hosted by the U-M women's team.
Wolverine Bites
• Michigan is ranked No. 17 in the ITA preseason coaches poll.
• Michigan returns nearly its entire singles lineup, losing only Mattias Siimar and Conor Johnson, who played in the Nos. 3/4 and No. 6 slots, respectively.
• Andrew Fenty returns for his senior season. The two-time All-American has a 60-25 singles record and a 44-11 mark in duals.
• Two-time first team All-Big Ten selection Ondrej Styler has a blistering 17-7 record in dual singles and is 30-15 overall, playing primarily in the No. 1 or 2 positions. He went 4-1 in the fall.
• Patrick Maloney posted a 7-4 singles mark in the fall following a second team All-Big Ten season. He owns a 35-21 overall singles record and is 24-16 in dual singles.
• Nick Beaty is 44-13 in singles over his Michigan career, with a sharp 29-5 dual mark.
• Jacob Bickersteth is ranked No. 67 after topping two ranked opponents from Florida and Arizona State in the fall.
• Minneota transfer Gavin Young makes his dual debut ranked No. 43. He won the Big Ten singles championship in November with a 9-2 fall season.
• The ITA Midwest Regional Doubles Champion team of Andrew Fenty and Nino Ehrenschneider are ranked No. 43. They reached the ITA Fall National second round before meeting their only loss of the season, going 8-1.
• The team of Jacob Bickersteth and Patrick Maloney was the runner-up at the Big Ten Doubles Championship after closing the fall with a 5-1 record.

Scouting the Hokies
Virginia Tech is coming off of a 12-10 record last season, finishing in the middle of the pack of the ACC. The Hokies return four players that have played in 15 or more singles matches, including Ryan Fishback. He ranked No. 78 in singles entering the season and posted a 12-6 singles mark last season. Last season, Fishback and Jordan Chrysostom posted a 9-4 mark as a duo.
