MADISON, Wis. -- The No. 3-ranked Michigan women's swimming and diving team picked up a pair of wins Saturday (Jan. 15) over Big Ten Conference foes No. 14 Wisconsin and No. 20 Minnesota. The Wolverines topped the Badgers 189-111 and beat Minnesota 179-121 at the Soderholm Family Aquatic Center.
The Wolverines started the meet by claiming the top spot in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of Maggie MacNeil, Letitia Sim, Olivia Carter and Lindsay Flynn touched the wall in a pool record 1:38.90, nearly two seconds ahead of the competition.
That quartet also racked up the individual wins for Michigan on the day, as MacNeil earned U-M's first individual win with a 52.73-second finish in the 100-yard backstroke and won the 200-yard backstroke in a 1:54.88. Sim also picked up a pair of wins on the day, as the freshman swam a 1:01.02 to take first in the 100-yard breaststroke and won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:13.44. Carter made it a clean sweep in the butterfly events for Michigan, winning the 100-yard (53.80) and 200-yard (1:56.76) events. Flynn won the 50-yard freestyle in 22.99 seconds.
Sophomore Kathryn Ackerman picked up the final individual win in the 500-yard freestyle (4:50.21).
The Wolverines had success in the diving well, too, as junior Lucy Hogan won the three-meter dive (314.50) and took second in the one-meter dive (276.80). Senior Allie Klein finished third in the one-meter (261.50), while freshman Evie Johnson took fourth in both the one-meter (260.65) and three-meter (293.05).
Michigan capped the night with a win in the 400-yard freestyle relay. MacNeil, Flynn, Newman and Carter combined forces to set another pool record, finishing in 3:18.49.
The Wolverines continue their Big Ten road swing in two weeks, traveling to Columbus to take on Ohio State on Jan. 28. The meet is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
