Multiple-time conference winner Aurora Rynda was the top performer for the distance squad at Indiana, where she posted a strong opener in the 800-meter event in which she is the defending outdoor Big Ten champion.

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Sprinter Ziyah Holman showed she is still the woman to beat in the Big Ten at 400 meters to headline the Wolverines' second and final day at the Rod McCravy Memorial on Saturday.
Running in the fastest heat against former Big Ten champion Alexis Holmes of Kentucky and her Olympian UK teammate Megan Moss, Holman held her own with a 52.95 performance that earned her third place in the competition.
Only four-tenths of a second shy of her school record from last year's Big Ten Championships, Holman also leads the Big Ten by more than a second and will emerge from the weekend inside the national top-20 and likely higher.
She teamed with Savannah Sutherland, Nikki Stephens and Chika Amene to finish fourth in the 4x400 relay in 3:39.08, bringing the Wolverines home in comeback fashion to overtake Howard for the lead in their section in the closing meters.
Sutherland battled in a tight three-way race on the opening leg, getting passed but holding strong with the group. Stephens opened strong and briefly took the lead back, but was passed and held on to put Michigan in third. Michigan fell behind on the third leg with Amene early.
Holman was the standout newcomer of the 2021 season, and many of the Wolverines' 2022 newcomers also posted strong performances in Lexington on Saturday.
Riley Ammenhauser added just one centimeter to her collegiate career best in the triple jump, leaping 12.47m (40 feet, 10 inches) for fifth place on her sixth-and-final attempt, but it was enough to claim outright the U-M first-year record in the event. With her performance last weekend at home, Ammenhauser had tied current school record-holder Casey Taylor.
In semifinals sprints action, transfer Aasia Laurencin finished 10th in the 60-meter hurdles and just missed the final by .01 seconds at 8.52, while first-year BreeAna Bates was 12th at 60 meters in 7.51, just .06 shy of the final.
Laurencin was eventually advanced to the final as a runner ahead of her was disallowed, and she ran her fastest time of the weekend in 8.42 to finish seventh.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Wolverine women's distance squad closed out its weekend at Indiana on Saturday (Jan. 29) with several top-10 performances at three different distances.
Reigning outdoor 800-meter champion Aurora Rynda turned in the Wolverines' best performance of the day as she finished runner-up at 800 meters in 2:06.92 in her 2022 debut in the event.
The time ranks her third in the conference based on times entering the weekend and inside the top-15 nationally, but the NCAA rank likely will change as results from around the country come in. The performance should still stand among the top-25 in the country.
Ericka VanderLende battled with the leaders throughout at 3,000 meters, but faded late to a fifth-place finish in 9:15.06. In the mile, Alice Hill clocked a season's best 4:45.82 for sixth place to lead three Wolverines inside the top 10.
