
Michigan Shut Out by No. 25 Nittany Lions in State College

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- The University of Michigan women's soccer team fell by a 3-0 score line against No. 25 Penn State on Sunday (Oct. 16) at PSU's Jeffrey Field.
Penn State (10-3-2, 5-2-1 Big Ten) got on the board early with Ally Schlegel slotting home a goal in the sixth minute. The Nittany Lions doubled the lead in the 43rd minute, with Kaitlyn McBean scoring the second goal of the half for PSU.
Michigan (6-7-3, 1-5-2 Big Ten) had two shots in the opening half, with both coming on goal. The first came from junior Sammi Woods in the 25th minute, and the latter from senior Hannah Blake in the waning moments of the opening half of play.
U-M closed their deficit in shots in the second half, with six compared to the Nittany Lions' 10, but were unable to convert them into goals. PSU's Schlegel notched her second goal of the day and the final tally of the match in the 52nd minute.
Woods led U-M with three shots, with one on goal, while Blake ended with a pair. Other opportunities came from senior Lily Farkas and sophomore Avery Kalitta.
Graduate student Izzy Nino played the first 64 minutes in goal, making three saves. She was relieved by senior Katherine McElroy, who made a pair of stops in 24 minutes of game play.

U-M closes out the regular season with a two-match homestand at U-M Soccer Stadium. First the Wolverines play host to No. 8 Rutgers on Thursday (Oct. 20) at 7 p.m., with the matchup to be broadcast live on Big Ten Network. The weekend closes out Sunday (Oct. 23) with a matchup against Indiana at 2 p.m. That contest will be streamed live on B1G+.
