DALLAS, Texas -- The University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team capped off the SMU Classic on Saturday (Oct. 8) with a fourth-place team finish (280 points) at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center. Texas finished in first place with 348 points.
The Wolverines collected three top-three finishes on Saturday, the best coming in second-place efforts from Gal Groumi in the 200-yard butterfly (1:45.46) and Cameron Gammage, who finished with 337.35 points on the three-meter springboard. U-M's lone third-place finish came in the 100-yard freestyle, where Bence Szabados touched the wall in 43.41 seconds.
In the first event of the day, the quartet of Wyatt Davis, Brendan Fitzpatrick, Groumi and Szabados finished fourth in the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 1:26.54 to get the Maize and Blue rolling.
Michigan posted five fourth-place finishes, two of which came in the 200 medley relay and the 200 free relay. Logan Zucker picked up a fourth-place finish in the 500 free (4:24.96), Davis finished fourth in the 200 back (1:45.47) and Jared Daigle finished fourth in the 200 individual medley (1:46.69).
The Wolverines will return to the pool on Saturday, Oct. 22 at noon when they take part in the Be Better; Invite, hosted by Calvin University, at the Venema Aquatic Center in Grand Rapids, Mich.
