
Michigan Men Win 12 Events, Roll Past Golden Grizzlies

ROCHESTER, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team had a strong showing against Oakland on Saturday (Oct. 8) at the Oakland Aquatics Center. The Wolverines defeated Oakland 169-107.
A Michigan swimmer won 12 out of the 15 events against Oakland. In the three events that a Michigan swimmer did not win, a Wolverine finished second.
The Maize and Blue started out hot against Oakland in the first event of the meet. The quartet of Andrew Trepanier, Jack McCurdy, Charlie Morici and Nikola Acin touched the wall first in a time of 1:29.01 to get the Wolverines started.
The Maize and Blue swept two different individual events, including the first one of the meet -- the 1,00-yard freestyle -- which saw Yugo Tsukikawa finish first, Jack Callan place second and Ryan Hume finish third. In the 200-yard fly, Connor Hunt, Morici, and Tyler Ray also went one-two-three to complete the sweep.
Newcomers to the team also made an impact for the Wolverines. Transfer Eduardo Moraes finished first in the 200-yard freestyle, and Acin, Lucas Hodgson, and Yousuf Al-Matrooshi went one-two-three in the 50 free. Acin picked up another first-place finish in the 100 free with a time of 44.08.
Other first-place finishers included Ansel Froass in the 200-yard breaststroke and 200-yard individual medley, Morici in the 100 fly, Moraes in the 500 free, Kameron Liberman on the 1-meter springboard and the team of Acin, Al-Matrooshi, Hodgson, and Trepanier in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
The Wolverines will return to the pool on Saturday, Oct. 22 at noon when they take part in the Be Better; Invite, hosted by Calvin University, at the Venema Aquatic Center in Grand Rapids, Mich.
