
Wolverines Finish Second at SMU Classic Behind 10 Top-Three Swims

» The Wolverines collected 10 top-three finishes on day two of the SMU Classic to finish second in the event with 311 points, 14 behind winner USC (325).

DALLAS, Texas -- The University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team capped off the SMU Classic on Saturday (Oct. 8) at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center with a second-place team finish (311 points). USC finished first with 325 points.
The Maize and Blue collected 10 top-three finishes on day two of the event, including two first-place finishes coming from Katie Crom in the 200-yard butterfly and Letitia Sim in the 200 individual medley.
In the first event of the day, the 200-yard medley relay, the quartet of Casey Chung, Sim, Devon Kitchel and Lindsay Flynn touched the wall second in a time of 1:38.43 to get the Wolverines started.
In the 500-yard freestyle Kathryn Ackerman swam her way to second place (4:47.66), with Crom touching the wall first in the evemt's B-final in a time of 4:45.47. Sim went 2:10.61 in the 200-yard breaststroke to finish second, and Kitchel (2:12.66) finished 11th. Flynn picked up a second-place finish for the Wolverines in the 100 free with a time of 48.82 seconds.
Other top-three finishers include Chung (third place, 1:56.94) in the 200-yard backstroke, Lucy Hogan on the one-meter springboard (third, 283.75 points), and the team of Flynn, Claire Newman, Chung and Crom (third, 1:30.87) in the 200 free relay.
The Wolverines will return to the pool on Saturday, Oct. 22 at noon when they take part in the Be Better; Invite, hosted by Calvin University, at the Venema Aquatic Center in Grand Rapids, Mich.
