
Brady, Jha Lead U-M to Third; Wolverines Await Fate for Championships Bid

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The No. 28th-ranked University of Michigan men's cross country team followed its plan and finished third at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional at LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course on Friday (Nov. 11).
The Wolverines entered the race as the third team in the region behind No. 8 Wisconsin and No. 13 Notre Dame. The Maize and Blue finished with 79 points behind both teams -- with Wisconsin taking the top spot with 50 points and Notre Dame coming in second with 61 points.
Senior Tom Brady finished in third place, taking the top spot for Michigan with a time of 29:54.8, behind two racers from Butler. After 3K, Brady was in the lead with graduate student Arjun Jha right behind him in second place. Brady and Jha held strong throughout the race never dropping below fourth. Both runners earned All-Region honors after setting career-best times in the 10K.
The next Wolverine across the finish line was senior Nick Foster, who held strong in the top 20 throughout the race finishing 19th overall -- earning All-Region honors. Also earning All-Region honors was the Wolverines' fourth finisher, Zach Stewart , who stayed in the top-30 throughout the race before finishing strong at the end to earn 24th.
The other three racers for the Maize and Blue were senior Oli Raimond, junior Jack Spamer and freshman Luke Venhuizen. Raimond set a new career-best time, while Spamer and Venhuizen raced in their first 10K collegiate race.
At three kilometers the top 45 were separated by only two seconds, with the gap widening to 22 seconds after 5K. At the finish line, the top 45 were separated by one minute and 26 seconds.
The Wolverines now await their fate with the NCAA Selection show coming tomorrow (Nov. 12) to see if they will earn a trip to Stillwater, Okla. The Wolverines are on the bubble heading into the selection show.
