
Michigan Men Collect Two Wins and Six 'B' Cut Times on First Day of Tennessee Invitational

» The Wolverines combined for six NCAA 'B' cut times, four of them coming in the 50 free, on the first day of the Tennessee Invitational.
» Cameron Gammage and Gal Groumi both picked up first-place finishes in their respective events.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The No. 14-ranked University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team completed the first day of the Tennessee Invitational with two first-place finishes and six NCAA 'B' cut times.
Finals
Cameron Gammage picked up the first win of the Tennessee Invitational for the Wolverines after scoring 369.10 on the 1-meter springboard. Kameron Liberman finished tenth with a score of 276.20, which helped pick up big points for U-M.
In the first swimming final of the night, the quartet of Bence Szabados, Cam Peel, Gal Groumi and Nikola Acin swam their way to a third-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:17.41.
In the 500-yard freestyle, Eduardo Moraes set the pace for the Wolverines with a third-place finish (4:17.81), while Connor Hunt finished seventh (4:23.94). In the B-final, Logan Zucker was the lone Wolverine picking up big points as he finished fifth and placed 13th overall.
Groumi picked up Michigan's second win of the weekend in the 200-yard IM, finishing with a time of 1:43.67, while Jared Daigle touched the wall third in a time of 1:45.14 and Ansel Froass touched the wall fifth; all swam fast enough to pick up NCAA 'B' cut times. Eitan Ben-Shitrit won the B-final with a time of 1:44.93, while Jacque Wenger and Cameron Luarde finished seventh and eighth, respectively.
In the final individual swimming event of the night, Szabados finished fifth in the A-final, while Peel finished eighth and Acin finished 16th overall.
The team of Wyatt Davis, Brendan Fitzpatrick, Groumi and Szabados finished fifth in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:08.39.
Prelims
Moraes was the top finisher for the Wolverines in the 500-yard freestyle with a second-place finish (4:19.42), which allowed him to advance to the A-final, while Hunt (10th place) and Zucker (16th place) advanced to the B-final. Ozan Kalafat and Ryan Hume advanced to the C-final after finishing 21st and 22nd in prelims, respectively.
In the 200-yard IM, the Wolverines advanced four to the A-final in Daigle, Groumi, Froass, and Benn-Shitrit. Davis and Luarde advanced to the B-final, while Wenger and Jack McCurdy advanced to the C-final.
In the final swimming prelim event of the morning, Szabados was the lone Wolverine to advance to the A-final after finishing fourth with a time of 19.41 in the 50-yard freestlye. Peel and Acin advanced to the B-final, while Hodgson and Ray advanced to the C-final.
The Wolverines will return to the pool Friday (Nov. 18) for day two of the Tennessee Invitational at the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center in Knoxville, Tenn. Prelims are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
