
Wolverines Earn Diving Win, Eight NCAA 'B' Cuts on Day Two of Tennessee Invitational

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team got another win from diver Cameron Gammage and picked up eight more NCAA 'B' cuts on Friday (Nov. 18) during the second day of the Tennessee Invitational at the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center.
Gammage earned his second win in as many days, scoring 393.80 to capture a victory on the 3-meter springboard.
The quartet of Wyatt Davis, Brendan Fitzpatrick, Gal Groumi and Bence Szabados kicked off the day with a third-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:26.66.
Coming off the medley relay, Groumi touched the wall third (45.68 seconds) in the 100-yard butterfly and Szabados finished eighth (47.03). In the 'B' final, Davis touched the wall third, swimming a 46.88, while Tyler Ray finished seventh behind with a time of 48.36.
Jared Daigle dropped 1.79 seconds off his preliminary time in the 400-yard individual medley to finish second (3:44.31). Eitan Ben-Shitrit finished fifth (3:47.29) and Jacque Wenger was eighth (3:57.58). In the 'B' final Connor Hunt finished fifth (3:53.47) with Ansel Froass finishing seventh (3:56.49).
In the 200-yard freestyle, Eduardo Moraes was the only Wolverine in the 'A' final, finishing sixth with a time of 1:36.17. Fitzpatrick was the top finisher for U-M in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing sixth (53.95 seconds) and Froass finished eighth (54.44). In the 'B' final, Ozan Kalafat finished third in 54.56, Jack McCurdy fifth (55.01) and Cameron Luarde seventh (55.31).
Davis swam his way to another third-place finish, this time in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 46.47. Nikola Acin touched the wall second (47.53) in the 'B' final with Jack Wilkening finishing fifth.
In the final event of the night, the team of Groumi, Moraes, Daigle and Ben-Shitrit finished second in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a time of 6:19.95.
The Wolverines will return to the pool Saturday (Nov. 19) for the final day of the Tennessee Invitational at the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center. Prelims begin at 10 a.m., with the finals starting at 6 p.m. Both, along with action in the diving well, will be streamed live on SEC Network+.
