Wolverine Bites
• The Wolverines started the season with a record-breaking performance scoring a program-best 23 goals in their 23-2 victory over Detroit Mercy. Michigan followed up the performance with its first-ever win over a top-five ranked program with an 11-7 victory over No. 5 Notre Dame.
• After its win over No. 5 Notre Dame, Michigan soared to No. 11 in the IL Women/IWLCA Coaches Poll after starting the season at No. 23. The Wolverines also now rank at No. 11 USA Lacrosse Magazine weekly poll after being unranked in the preseason poll.
• Fifth-year senior Caitlin Muir broke the Michigan points record in the first week of the season and now has 167 points (96 goals, 71 assists). Muir is just four goals away from scoring 100 career goals. Muir would be just the fourth player in Michigan women's lacrosse history to score 100 career goals, joining Kim Coughlan, Jess Angerman and Anna Schueler. In order to become the all-time leader in goals, Muir would need to score 29 goals this season to pass Coughlan (124).
• Graduate student Arielle Weissman, senior Kaitlyn Mead and freshman Kaylee Dyer earned Big Ten weekly honors on Tuesday (Feb. 15). Weissman was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week after making 13 saves against No. 5 Notre Dame and ending the weekend with two wins and 16 total saves. Mead earned Big Ten Midfielder of the Week honors after she scored six goals in opening weekend, including a four-goal outing at Notre Dame. The senior midfielder netted the first three goals of the game against the Fighting Irish and had a two-goal outing against Detroit Mercy. In her first collegiate competition, Dyer was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week after scoring a pair of goals in each of Michigan's two games this past weekend.
• In its first two games of the season, Michigan has had 16 different goal scorers with 15 different players finding the back of the cage against Detroit Mercy. Nine players have scored two goals or more, with Kaitlyn Mead scoring a team-high six and Erin Garvey adding five.
