Wolverine Notes
• The game between Michigan and Iowa will determine the Big Ten champion, with Ohio State still in the mix with wins by themselves and Iowa. Ohio State and Iowa each will play 18 Big Ten games, while Michigan will finish with 17 games played after a contest at Illinois was not rescheduled. Winning percentage will determine the champion. Michigan has never won a Big Ten championship in program history.
• With just one game remaining in the regular season, Michigan has 22 wins to tie the most in the regular season (22, 2016-17) in program history. In addition, Michigan's 13 Big Ten victories is tied for the most conference wins in a season (13-3, 1999-2000).
• Naz Hillmon is closing in on becoming the first player in Michigan history - man or woman - to record 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds. She is seven rebounds away from 1,000. She will be the third play in Michigan basketball history to reach 1,000, joining Rudy Tomjanovich (1,039) and Bill Buntin (1,037).
• Michigan swept three of its home-and-home conference opponents this season after getting a 71-59 win over No. 13 Maryland (Feb. 20). It was just the second time since Maryland joined the Big Ten prior to the 2014-15 season that the Terps were swept by a conference team in the regular season (Ohio State, 2015-16). In addition, Michigan swept the season series from Wisconsin and Ohio State.
• Michigan and Iowa are meeting for the second time this month after U-M picked up a 98-90 win over the Hawkeyes at Crisler Center (Feb. 6). Michigan is looking for its first win at Carver-Hawkeye Arena since a 68-64 win on Jan. 6, 2013. In the first game of the season between Michigan and Iowa, each team was missing at least one starter (Leigha Brown, Gabbie Marshall, McKenna Warnock). Iowa's Caitlin Clark led a fourth-quarter frenzy for the Hawkeyes, setting a new Crisler Center record with 46 points. Naz Hillmon had 26 points and Laila Phelia turned in a career-best 24 points.
• The game between Michigan and Iowa pits the Big Ten's top offense and top defense. Iowa is leading the league in scoring at 84.7 points per game, while Michigan has the top scoring defense in the Big Ten at 59.8 points per game.
• The game will feature the two players who were named Big Ten Preseason Player of the Year in Naz Hillmon and Iowa's Caitlin Clark. Hillmon grabbed the honor by the media, with Clark tabbed by the coaches. They are two of five players in the Big Ten averaging at least 20.0 points per game this season. The duo also played together on the 2019 U19 USA Basketball squad that captured gold at the FIBA World Cup.
• No. 21 Iowa (19-7, 13-4 B1G) has won three straight games entering the contest, which will be a sellout at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Iowa is averaging 84.7 points per game on 50.2 percent shooting while allowing 71.3 points per game on 40.1 percent shooting. Caitlin Clark leads a trio of double-figure scorers with 27.1 points per game, as Monika Czinano (20.8 ppg) and McKenna Warnock (12.7ppg) joining her.
