Wolverine Bites
• Michigan will be competing for its 26th Big Ten championship, by far the most of any school in the conference. Next on the list are Minnesota and Ohio State with six and five, respectively.
• Head coach Bev Plocki has the most championships by any coach in Big Ten gymnastics history with 24. Larry Cox, former Ohio State head coach, is second with five. The 24 titles topped Indiana's James (Doc) Counsilman for the most by any coach, in any sport, in Big Ten history.
• Michigan also leads the conference with 99 individual champions, which is 55 more than Minnesota in second place. The 99 championships include 83 event titles and 16 all-around victories.
• Senior Natalie Wojcik and junior Gabby Wilson return to the title meet as reigning Big Ten individual champions. Wojcik won the vault in 2021 with a perfect 10.0 and Wilson won the floor with a 9.950.
• Wojcik was named one of six finalists for the AAI Award, which is considered the Heisman Trophy of gymnastics and is given annually to the nation's top senior. In the 31-year history of the award, two Michigan gymnasts have earned the honor; Oliva Karas was U-M's most recent finalist in 2019.
• Seven Michigan gymnasts were honored by the Big Ten Conference as U-M had five first team honorees and two second team selections. For the 10th straight season the Wolverines have had at least five all-conference selections and at least four first team selections as Sierra Brooks, Abby Heiskell, Naomi Morrison, Wilson and Wojcik were all named to the first team and both Abby Brenner and Reyna Guggino earned second team honors. U-M led the conference with five first team honors, while Michigan State, Minnesota and Rutgers each had two.
• Michigan has taken home at least one Big Ten Conference weekly award in each week of the season in 2022. The Wolverines were honored seven times as the Big Ten Specialist of the Week, five times as the Big Ten Gymnast of the Week, and twice as the Big Ten Freshman of the Week. Wojcik was honored a total of five times as she was a three-time gymnast of the week and a two-time specialist of the week, while Brooks earned gymnast of the week honors twice. In addition, Wilson was named specialist of the week twice, while Brenner, Guggino and Jacey Vore all earned the honor one time. Finally, Vore was a two-time freshman of the week honoree.
