ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The full University of Michigan men's track and field team will be in action for the first time this weekend, albeit nearly 12 hours apart, along the eastern seaboard. The squad will compete at both the Raleigh Relays and the Miami Hurricane Collegiate Invitational.
Making its 2022 outdoor debut at NC State's Raleigh Relays this Thursday through Saturday (March 24-26) will be the men's distance crew, while the sprinters, jumpers and throwers return to Florida for the second weekend in a row for the one-day Miami Hurricane Collegiate Invite on Saturday (March 26).
All four event discipline groups will come together at the same meet for the first time this spring at Duke in two weeks.
This weekend's schedule begins Thursday afternoon at 4:45 p.m. ET at Raleigh with sections of the 1,500 meters, to be followed immediately by 10 sections of the 5,000 meters that will conclude by 9 p.m.
Michigan distance runners will return to the Raleigh track Friday at 6:36 p.m. ET for the 3,000-meter steeplechase, with 10,000-meter races set for 9 p.m. through 10:45 p.m.
Action at NC State concludes Saturday with the 800 meters starting at 4:20 p.m. and the 4x400 relay at 6:10 p.m.
Competition at Miami is comparatively compressed into a five-hour window, starting with field events at noon and a track program that is scheduled to run from 2:10 p.m. through 5 p.m.
Nearly all of Michigan's top contenders will be in action between the two competitions.
Confirmed to headline the group headed to Raleigh include multiple-time All-American Devin Meyrer at 10,000 meters, 2021 outdoor All-American Christian Hubaker in his 2022 3,000-meter steeplechase debut, 2021 outdoor Big Ten medalist Joost Plaetinck at 5,000 meters, and returning indoor scorers Oli Raimond (800 meters, 1,500 meters) and Will Landowne (5,000 meters).
Recent indoor All-Americans Cole Johnson and Miles Brown are expected to debut at either Raleigh or Miami. The remainder of the Miami entries are not finalized until Thursday afternoon, and will be announced at that time.
Live results for Raleigh will be provided through Flash Results, and Primetime Timing will carry live results for Miami. Portions of both meets will also be streamed live through the ACC Network Extra digital platform. Updates will be posted throughout the competitions to the official social media channels of Michigan track and field.
