ATLANTA, Ga. -- Leigha Brown and Naz Hillmon of the University of Michigan women's basketball team were each named to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) All-Region 4 team on Thursday (March 24). The selection committee will choose the 10-member Coaches' All-America team from these 52 finalists.
Hillmon grabs her third straight all-region honor after becoming Michigan's first-ever WBCA All-American last season. She has appeared in 29 games this season, reaching double figures in all but one game and recording 16 double-doubles to push her career total to 50. She is averaging 21.3 points and 9.6 rebounds per game while shooting 58.0 percent from the floor. She is second all-time in program history in scoring (2,148 points) and the program's all-time leading rebounder with 1,042 rebounds. Hillmon was a unanimous and consensus pick to the All-Big Ten first team and has already earned first-team All-America honors from the USBWA, the Associated Press, the Athletic and Sports Illustrated.
Brown is a region finalist for the first time in her career after averaging 14.7 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game this season. She has appeared in 22 games, reaching double figures in all but three with four 20-point games. She was named to the All-Big Ten second team after missing five games in February due to injury. Brown is coming off a 20-point, five-rebound performance in the second round of the NCAA Tournament against Villanova (March 21), marking the fourth time she has gotten to 20 points in her five career NCAA Tournament games.
It is the second time Michigan has had two players named region finalists, with Katelynn Flaherty and Hallie Thome each earning the honor in 2018.
Michigan is back in action on Saturday (March 26) in the Sweet 16, facing off against South Dakota in the Wichita Region semifinal at 5:30 p.m. CT. The game will be broadcast on ESPN2.
