ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Looking to build off a strong opener in Orlando last weekend, the University of Michigan women's track and field team is returning to Florida this Saturday (March 26) for the Miami Hurricane Collegiate Invitational in Coral Gables.
The Wolverines' sprinters, jumpers and throwers will represent the squad at Cobb Stadium in a field that is expected to include nearly two dozen teams, including host Miami and Washtenaw County neighbor Eastern Michigan.
Michigan's distance crew will have the weekend to itself next Friday and Saturday (April 1-2) as they make their 2022 outdoor debuts at Stanford.
All four event discipline groups will come together at the same meet for the first time this spring in two weekends' time at Duke.
Field event competition is tentatively scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m., with track events starting at 2:05 p.m. The meet is tentatively scheduled to conclude just before 5 p.m., barring any weather delays, though the forecast calls for a warm, sunny, dry day at 78 degrees.
Reigning Big Ten Conference Field Athlete of the Week Ameia Wilson will be in action, though she will be focusing on the sprints (100 meters, 200 meters) in lieu of the long jump.
Three-time Big Ten 400-meter champion Ziyah Holman will focus on those same events, with U-M first-year record breaker BreeAna Bates joining them at 100 meters. Big Ten Indoor silver medalist hurdler Aasia Laurencin will look to follow up a solid opener in the 100-meter hurdles.
NCAA indoor qualifier and school record-holder Jessica Mercier will make her 2022 outdoor debut in the pole vault, and she will be joined in the event by returning Big Ten outdoor scorer Mia Manson. Indoor triple jump first-year record holder Riley Ammenhauser is slated to make her outdoor debut in the event, and multiple-time multi-events scorer Theresa Mayanja will be in action across several different events (100-meter hurdles, 200 meters, long jump).
The Wolverines' throws duo of Corinne Jemison and Amanda Schaare were historic in their 2022 outdoor debuts last week, and they will both return for both the shot put and discus. Jemison posted U-M all-time top-10 marks in both events last week, and Shaare PR'ed in the shot put to bolster her all-time top-10 position in that event.
Primetime Timing will carry live results for Miami. Portions of the meet will also be streamed live through the ACC Network Extra digital platform. Updates will be posted throughout the competitions to the official social media channels of Michigan track and field.
