ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The distance squad for the University of Michigan women's track and field team is set to make its 2022 outdoor debut this Friday and Saturday (April 1-2) with a trip out west to the Stanford Invitational.
Competing at what is annually one of the premier distance meets on the collegiate schedule, the Wolverines will open their season in events ranging from 800 meters through 5,000 meters at Stanford's Cobb Track and Angell Field facility.
Multiple-time All-American and Big Ten Conference champion Aurora Rynda (800 meters, 1,500 meters) headlines the crew as she competes for the first time since a first-team All-America showing at the NCAA Indoor Championships last month.
She will be joined by, among others, All-Americans Ericka VanderLende (5,000 meters), Alice Hill (3,000-meter steeplechase), Katelynne Hart (5,000 meters) and Lucy Petee (800 meters, 1,500 meters), as well as multiple-time Big Ten scorers Samantha Tran (5,000 meters) and Kayla Windemuller (3,000-meter steeplechase).
Many of the Wolverines' mid-distance runners are entered at both 1,500 meters and 800 meters, which will be contested on separate days. Lower-seeded sections of the 1,500 will be run Friday starting at 1:30 p.m. PDT, with higher-seeded competition set to take place later that evening at 6:34 p.m. with an invitational section at 6:48 p.m.
The 800 meters will be Saturday's lone event for the Wolverines, with six sections scheduled for 2:33 p.m.
In between the sessions of the 1,500 will be the steeplechase. Three sections of that event begin at 5:06 p.m., with an invitational section set for 5:36 p.m.
Friday will conclude for Michigan with the 5,000 meters. Depending on race assignments, Michigan student-athletes could compete in one of two lower-seeded sections starting at 7:16 p.m. or an invitational section at 8:32 p.m.
The meet will be streamed live via FloTrack's subscription digital service, and live results will be provided through Record Timing. Updates will be posted to the official Michigan track and field social media channels throughout the weekend.
