
Michigan Treks to NCAA Championships

» The Wolverines will compete in qualification session II, contested on Friday (April 15) at 7 p.m. CT. If they finish in the top three of six teams, U-M will advance to session III on Saturday (April 16) at 6 p.m. CT.

» The Maize and Blue qualified third for the championships with a score of 410.675, the highest-ranked Big Ten team in the field.

The No. 3-ranked University of Michigan men's gymnastics team, fresh off earning the 2022 Big Ten regular season and post-season championship, enters the 2022 NCAA Championships Fri-Sat. (April 15-16) as the third-seeded team in the championships. The meet is being hosted by the Oklahoma Sooners, with U-M competing in qualifying session II on Friday (April 15) at 7 p.m. CT. If qualified, U-M will compete in the session III finals on Saturday (April 16) at 6 p.m. CT.
All three sessions of the Championship will be streamed for free via SoonerSports.TV, with a main broadcast feed and separate feeds for each apparatus. Saturday's championship session will also be televised by Stadium College Sports Central.
Wolverine Bites
• The Wolverines, coming off a pair of Big Ten Championships, enter NCAA's with a 410.675 qualifying score and will be seeded third.
• Michigan, seeded third with a qualifying score of 410.675, will compete in qualifier session II, alongside No. 2 and host school Oklahoma, No. 6 Ohio State, No. 7 Navy, No. 10 Air Force, and No. 11 Army. The top three teams from session I and session II will advance to Saturday's session III, where team and individual accolades will be up for grabs.
• U-M will begin on parallel bars, followed by high bar, floor exercise, pommel horse, still rings, and vault.
• In event rankings, U-M is in the top three in the country on four events. The Wolverines are second on still rings (69.100) and parallel bars (68.563) and rank third on floor exercise (68.475) and high bar (66.988).
• Junior Paul Juda earned Big Ten Gymnast of the Championships, and interim head coach Yuan Xiao was named Big Ten Coach of the Year. Juda (high bar), senior Jacob Moore (floor exercise) and sophomore Evgeny Siminiuc (parallel bars) each won Big Ten Individual titles as U-M repeated as Big Ten Champions in State College on April 1-2.
• All three earned First Team All-Big Ten honors. At the same time, sophomore Javier Alfonso (still rings) and junior Adam Wooten (high bar) earned runner-up finishes on their respective events to garner second-team honors.
• The Wolverines have yet to compete with a full-strength lineup with senior Cameron Bock working his way back from injury. Bock, a four-time NCAA All-American, is slated to compete on four events on day one of NCAA competition.
• Individually, Juda ranks No. 1 in the country on high bar with an NQA score of 14.438. His high score of 14.500 is tied for the third-highest score in the NCAA on the season. Siminiuc ranks third on the event (13.850), while junior Crew Bold ranks No. 16. However, Bold's high score of 14.700 on the year is the highest in the country, and he boasts a 15.60 start value, one of the top start values on the event in all the land.
• Moore ranks No. 4 in the country on floor exercise, with an average score of 14.400 and a high of 14.400, while classmate Nicholas Guy is at No. 10 with a 13.888 average and 14.150 high score.
• Coming off his standout Big Ten performance, Alfonso ranks No. 5 on still rings (14.106 average/14.350 high). On vault, Guy checks in at No. 7 in the country with a 14.325 average and a high mark of 14.750.
• U-M boasts tons of firepower on parallel bars, even with Bock working his way back into the fold on the apparatus. Siminiuc ranks fourth in the country (14.325), while his high score of 14.600 ranks No. 6 in the country. Juda checks in at No. 6 with a 14.100 average but a 14.800 high score that is fourth nationally.
NCAA Championship History
• At the 2021 championships, U-M placed third in the finals session with a team score of 410.358. Eleven athletes took home All-American honors, with Bock (still rings, parallel bars) and Juda (pommel horse, all-around) winning a pair each.
• Michigan boasts six NCAA team titles -- the most recent in 2014 -- 38 individual titles and 230 NCAA All-America citations.
