ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- This weekend the No. 6-ranked University of Michigan rowing team will travel south to the Sunshine State where the Wolverines will take part in The Big Ten Invitational. The regatta is a championship-level event featuring 16 of the best programs in the nation, including all eight Big Ten programs, three opponents from the ACC, two each from the Ivy League and PAC-12 and one SEC representative.
Half of the nation's ranked teams (20) will be in competition at this weekend's event -- No. 2 Stanford, No. 6 U-M, No. 7 Brown, No. 8 Ohio State, No. 10 Duke, No. 12 Virginia, No. 17 Rutgers, No. 18 Tennessee, No. 19 Washington State and No. 20 Indiana.
U-M will go up against 12 of the 15 possible opponents, only missing opportunities to race Dartmouth, No. 10 Duke and Michigan State.
Outside of the Big Ten, U-M will race against Tennessee, Washington State, and Rutgers in the Friday morning session. The afternoon will bring Notre Dame and Brown as nonconference opponents. On Saturday, U-M will square up with Stanford and Virginia.
U-M will travel two varsity eights, three varsity fours and two novice eights, totaling seven boats in action. The Maize and Blue are expected to have in excess of 50 athletes competing altogether.

THINGS TO KNOW
• This weekend's race site in Sarasota, Florida, is also the site of the 2022 NCAA Championships. Nathan Benderson Park has been the site of the NCAA Championships twice in the last three championships (2018, '21) and is host to top-tier events such as U.S. National Championship events.
• This competition marks U-M's only regatta this spring that will feature multiple racing sessions in a single day (Friday a.m./p.m.). It is also the team's only Friday racing this season until the NCAA Championships (May 27-29).
• The Big Ten Invitational has been on the schedule for three years running (2020-present). After the 2021 competition was held in Bethel, Ohio, the event travels south this year.
• The Maize and Blue's top boats have had mixed success so far this spring, but the team has been racing an extremely competitive schedule. The Wolverines have already seen top competition including Duke, Tennessee, Virginia and the top-ranked team in the nation, Texas, on the water.
• This will be the Wolverines' second weekend this season competing against the Cavaliers. U-M raced then-No. 11 Virginia in Columbus, Ohio, as part of the B1G-ACC Challenge. The 1V8, 1V4 and 2V4 boats swept while the 3V4 split on the day.
• U-M also rowed against U-T earlier this spring, though not in formal competition. During the team's spring training trip in Caryville, Tennessee, the Volunteers and Wolverines competed in a scrimmage piece.
• U-M currently sits at No. 6 in the Pocock CRCA Poll and is the top-ranked team from the Big Ten.
• Overall, the conference has four teams currently ranked in the top 20 nationally, including U-M, No. 8 Ohio State, No. 17 Rutgers and No. 20 Indiana.
• Last time out on the water, the Maize and Blue raced No. 1-ranked Texas at home on Belleville Lake. The Wolverines earned a win in the 2V4 event at the beginning of the day.
• U-M will host one final event at Belleville Lake this spring when the program welcomes Louisville for a Senior Day celebration on May 1.
