ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Michigan's bats awoke to the tune of 18 runs on 13 hits over the first three innings of play Wednesday (May 11) as the Wolverines powered their way to a 21-9 win over Wright State at Ray Fisher Stadium.
The 21 runs scored were the most scored by the Wolverines this season, topping the 20 they plated against Florida Atlantic back in early March.
A wild first inning saw Wright State's Julian Greenwell lead off the game with a home run only to see Michigan answer with six runs in the bottom of the frame, sparked by Riley Bertram's towering three-run homer to right field.
Michigan made it 8-1 after two innings thanks to an RBI double from Matt Frey and Tito Flores' second RBI single in as many innings. However, the floodgates opened in the third.
Casey Buckley delivered a towering grand slam home run while Jake Marti laced a two-run double and Clark Elliott added a two-run single as Michigan scored 10 runs, taking an 18-1 lead.
After that, the game was never in doubt as teams unloaded their benches.
Elliott and Joe Stewart led all players with three hits while Frey, Flores, Bertram and Marti all had two. Elliott, Bertram and Buckley all had four runs batted in. Jordon Rogers walked four times and scored three times.
Jake Keaser was credited with the win, the first of his collegiate career, as the freshman hurled two hitless innings of relief while striking out two.
The Wolverines will next take on Maryland in College Park in the opener of a three-game road set. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., and the game will be streamed live on B1G+.
