
Jackson Named NCAA Elite 90 Award Winner for Water Polo

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Senior student Sophie Jackson of the University of Michigan water polo team has been named the recipient of one of the highest academic honors in collegiate athletics, the NCAA Elite 90 Award, the association announced Thursday (May 5).
Jackson is the second athlete from water polo to earn this prestigious award, the first coming in 2016 when Danielle Johnson was named the Elite 90 award recipient. The Elite 90 award is given annually to the participating student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average at each of the NCAA's 90 championships.
Jackson, hailing from West Yorkshire, England earns this distinct honor by having a 3.986 cumulative grade-point average and graduated with her bachelor's degree in Architecture and now joins Michigan's other female winners: Alice Hill (2021, Cross Country), Annika Hoffmann (2019, Rowing), Kinsey Vear (2016, Rowing), and Danielle Johnson (2016, Water Polo).
During her time as an undergraduate, she has been a part of the three CWPA championship teams (2019, 2021 and 2022), earned Big Ten Distinguished Scholar honors, earned Academic All-Big Ten honors twice, was a part of the ACWPC All-Academic team in 2020, was a CWPA Scholar-Athlete (2020) and was awarded the U-M Academic Achievement Award (2020).
During her senior year, Jackson played in 26 games while starting four games, she collected 111 saves, 14 steals and three assists, and garnered a 10-1 record during her 26-game appearances.
