
U-M Logs Three NCAA “B” Cut Times on Second Day of Georgia Invitational

ATHENS, Ga. -- The No. 25-ranked University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team found itself in fifth place at the end of day two of the Georgia Invitational inside Gabrielsen Natatorium on Friday (Nov. 18).
In the morning's preliminary round, 14 Wolverines qualified for the final round of five events, led by Gal Groumi who posted a time of 45.64 in the 100-yard butterfly to finish second and advance to the A final.
In the finals, Groumi followed up with a second-place result in the 100-yard butterfly final with a time of 44.83. Tyler Ray finished third with a mark of 46.19. Both times met the NCAA "B" qualifying standard.
In the 100-yard breaststroke, Brendan Fitzpatrick clocked the top time in the B final, logging a mark of 53.14 to earn a "B" cut on Friday.
Jack Wilkening paced the Wolverines in the 100-yard backstroke with "B" cut time of 46.43 to finish eighth overall.
The Michigan men closed out the day in the pool with a strong performance in the 800-yard freestyle relay. The quartet of Eitan Ben-Shitrit, Groumi, Ozan Kalafat and Logan Zucker combined to register a time of 6:19.08 to finish second overall and less than two seconds off the lead.
In the diving well, Cameron Gammage had another strong performance, winning the one-meter dive with a score of 380.85.
The Wolverines will return to Gabrielsen Natatorium for the final day of the Georgia Invitational tomorrow (Nov. 18). The preliminary round is scheduled for 9:30 a.m., and the final round will start at 5:30 p.m.
