
U-M to Head to Athens for Georgia Invitational

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- After nearly a month off, the No. 18-ranked University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team will head south for the Georgia Invitational at Gabrielsen Natatorium in Athens, Ga. The three-day meet will start on Thursday (Nov. 16) with preliminaries at 9:30 a.m. and finals at 5:30 p.m.
Notes
• U-M split its first two matchups with Arizona and Wisconsin, respectively, at the Wisconsin Tri-Meet on Oct. 21. The Wolverines outlasted the Wildcats, 239-108, but fell to the Badgers, 185-168, to start the season with a record of 1-1. Â
• Bence Szabados has been the leader for the Michigan men in the pool, posting an NCAA "B" standard mark in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 19.79 at the Wisconsin Tri-Meet. Szabados second or better in every event he participated in against Wisconsin and Arizona.
• Jack Wilkening picked up a B-cut in the 100-yard backstroke at the Wisconsin Tri-Meet with a time of 46.99 -- good for first place.
• Tyler Ray continued his strong start to the 2023-24 season with a victory in the 100-yard butterfly at the Wisconsin Tri-Meet, touching the wall at 47.62.
• Brendan Fitzpatrick holds the top time in the 100-yard breaststroke, posting a time of 54.42 to finish second at the Wisconsin Tri-Meet.
• In the IM, sophomore Eitan Ben-Shitrit leads the way after registering a time of 1:47.32 against the Wildcats and Badgers.
• In the diving well, Cameron Gammage has enjoyed a solid start to the season, winning the one-meter dive in both meets he has started.
• Following the Georgia Invitational, Michigan will take an extended hiatus before returning to team competition on Jan. 19 against Indiana.
