
Wolverines Drop Battle 4 Atlantis Finale to Texas Tech

PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas -- The University of Michigan men's basketball team closed its Battle 4 Atlantis trip with a 73-57 loss to Texas Tech on Friday (Nov. 24) at Imperial Arena. The Wolverines placed sixth overall in the event.
Leaders and Best
Olivier Nkamhoua posted 16 points and five rebounds while shooting seven-for-10 from the field. Dug McDaniel added 12 points, three rebounds, three assists and three steals.
The Turning Point
For a stretch of over nine minutes early in the first half, the Wolverines (4-3) shot just one-for-10 from the field, falling behind 24-9. From there, the Maize and Blue could only pull within 11 the rest of the way.
First Half
Nkamhuoa led the Wolverines out of the gate, scoring each of U-M's first five points. After trailing 6-5 with 16:50 left in the half, the Maize and Blue went cold from the field, making just one of its next 10 shots. At one point, Michigan went over five minutes without a point to fall behind, 24-9, with 7:13 to go before the break.
McDaniel ended the drought by scoring in the paint on three straight possessions to pull the Wolverines within 11 with six minutes before the halftime buzzer. The Wolverines were outscored 9-6 the rest of the half, and went into the locker room trailing, 35-21. Â
Second Half
Texas Tech (5-1) started the second half on a 5-0 run after three technical free throws and a layup on the opening possession.
Michigan answered by making six straight field goals to outscore the Red Raiders 17-10 over a four-minute stretch and pull within 12.
Texas Tech responded with a 13-2 run behind five straight free throws from Joe Toussaint to take a 63-40 lead with 10 minutes remaining. The Maize and Blue managed an 8-0 run of its own behind a three-pointer from Terrance Williams II and an and-one by Tray Jackson but could only cut the margin to as little as 14 the rest of the way. At the final buzzer, the Wolverines fell, 73-57.
What's Next
Michigan will face Oregon on Saturday (Dec. 2) at Matthew Knight Arena in Eugene. Tipoff is slated for 12:30 p.m. PT and the game will be televised live on FS1.
Notes
• McDaniel extended his double-figure scoring streak to seven games.
• With 10 points on the night, Williams II has reached double figures for the sixth time this season. He had just 10 career games with 10-plus points entering the season.
• With six rebounds, Tarris Reed Jr. has now grabbed at least five boards in five of seven games.
• The Wolverines held the Red Raiders to just 24 percent (five-for-21) from beyond the arc.
