ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's basketball team (8-2) returns to non-conference action on Saturday (Dec. 16) at 11 a.m. inside Crisler Center, hosting Miami (Ohio) (1-6). It is Michigan's holiday game, with the first 1,000 fans receiving a block M cookie cutter. The game will be streamed live on B1G+.
Notes
• Michigan made a lineup change last time out, inserting the Australian duo of Elissa Brett and Chyra Evans into the starting lineup. It was the first career start for Evans, while Brett earned her first start as a Wolverine. Evans reached double figures for the third time this season, turning in 10 points in 21 minutes. Brett had five points, six boards and six assists in 28 minutes, tying for the team lead with a +28 plus/minus rating.
• After recording a 36-point win at Illinois (Dec. 10) its lone Big Ten contest before the holiday, Michigan has hit the home stretch of its non-conference season with just three games remaining. After this contest against the RedHawks, U-M will face Florida at the Jumpman Invitational (Dec. 20) and host Florida A&M at Crisler on Dec. 22 to wrap up the non-conference portion of the season.
• Michigan is back at Crisler Center after playing the last three games on the road and the first time in the month of December that U-M is playing at home. The Wolverines are 4-0 at Crisler this season, averaging 85.8 points per game on 49.8 percent shooting from the floor and 43 percent shooting from deep. Michigan has scored at least 80 points in all four of its home games this season.
• Michigan is averaging just 47.5 points per game in its two losses, while going for 80 points per game in its victories. In wins, Michigan is shooting 46.8 percent from the floor and 37.8 percent from three-point range while shooting below 30 percent from both in losses.
• Jordan Hobbs had a breakout game last time out, topping the 20-point mark for the first time in her career with 22 points at Illinois (Dec. 10). Hobbs was 8-for-11 from the floor, including a 4-for-5 showing from deep. On the season, she is third on the team in scoring at 9.6 points per game.
• Head coach Kim Barnes Arico is one win away from recording her 250th win at Michigan. The only other U-M basketball coach to reach 250 wins in Ann Arbor is John Beilein (278).
• Michigan already has had three games this season with at least 10 three-pointers, tying a school record with 14 against SIU Edwardsville (Nov. 29), hitting 13 at Illinois (Dec. 6) and putting in 10 against Eastern Michigan (Nov. 24). It is the first time since the 2017-18 season that Michigan has had multiple games with at least 10 three-pointers. U-M had three instances in that season, including a game in which Katelynn Flaherty set a school record by hitting 10 three-pointers against Penn State (Dec. 28, 2017).
• A year after ranking second in the Big Ten in scoring defense (63.4 ppg), Michigan has continued to find success on the defensive end to start the 2023-24 season. U-M is first in the league in scoring defense, allowing just 54.7 points per game. Michigan has held all 10 if its opponents under 70 points this season, including six under 60 points.
