Dec. 5: Christmas Ugly Sweater Night
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Tipping off the Big Ten season, the University of Michigan basketball team (4-4, 0-0 Big Ten) hosts Indiana (6-1, 1-0 Big Ten) on Tuesday night (Dec. 5) at Crisler Center. Opening tipoff is slated for 9 p.m., and the game will be streamed live on Peacock.
Notes
• When the Big Ten moved to a 20-game schedule (2017), it created an opportunity to play early December games -- one home and one away. Winning its last five straight early openers, Michigan has a 6-3 overall record in Big Ten December games.
• Phil Martelli took over as U-M's interim head coach while Juwan Howard had a heart procedure in September. Howard returned in the Bahamas and as he continues his transition back and currently serves as an assistant coach, Martelli will continue to serve as U-M's head coach.
• Jaelin Llewellyn returned to the U-M lineup at Oregon (Dec. 4) after nearly one year away from the floor. He came off the bench -- the first time in collegiate career -- playing 10 minutes and scoring two points and recording two assists. Last season, Llewellyn suffered a season-ending knee injury (left ACL) vs. Kentucky (Dec. 4, 2022) in London, England (O2 Arena).
• Michigan returns to Ann Arbor for the first time since mid-November. The Wolverines have played four straight road games (1-3) in the last two weeks. U-M has played five of its eight games away from Crisler Center. After winning its first three games, Michigan has lost four of its last five.
• Following his career-high 33 points at Oregon (Dec. 2), Dug McDaniel has posted double figures in all eight games and leads U-M with 20.3 points per game. Overall, he has recorded five 20-plus point games this season. McDaniel leads U-M with 21 three-pointers and 5.3 assists per game. He has posted three-plus assists in all eight games and in 13 straight dating back to last season.
• Olivier Nkamhoua has scored in double figures in 7-of-8 games and is second on U-M with 16.9 points per game. In addition to his scoring, he leads the Wolverines with seven rebounds per game. With 483 career boards, He is 17 rebounds (483) away from reaching 500. Nkamhoua has three-plus assists in five games and is second on U-M with 23 (2.9 apg).
• Will Tschetter continues to lead Michigan from long range as he is shooting 76 percent from deep (10-for-13). Nimari Burnett continues to produce on the road as 13 of his 16 long-range baskets are away from Ann Arbor.
