
Michigan Earns Victory in Exhibition Quad Meet Showcase

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's gymnastics team earned a victory in its annual exhibition meet against Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan and Western Michigan on Sunday afternoon (Dec. 3) at Crisler Center. The Wolverines scored a 197.100 to earn the win, while WMU placed second with a 195.525, CMU finished in third with a 195.450 and EMU rounded out the scores with a 194.325.
Graduate student Sierra Brooks earned four event titles for the Maize and Blue, capturing the all-around title with a 39.650 with wins on vault (9.900), balance beam (9.950) and floor exercise (9.950). Seniors Jenna Mulligan and Gabby Wilson tied for third on beam with matching 9.925s, while Mulligan tied for second on vault with Naomi Morrison earning 9.850s. Senior Carly Bauman placed second on uneven bars with a 9.850, and Reyna Guggino finished second on the floor with a 9.925.
The Wolverines got out to a strong start on the vault with Morrison and Mulligan earning back-to-back 9.850s and Brooks closing out the opening rotation with a 9.900. Michigan tied with Eastern Michigan as both squads earned 49.200s heading into the second rotation, with Central Michigan in third and Western Michigan rounding out the quad.
Bauman and Brooks paced Michigan in the second rotation, earning matching 9.850s, while Farah Lipetz and Haylen Zabrowski made their U-M debuts on the event. The Wolverines scored a 49.100 to bring their running score to 98.300 after two complete rotations and maintain the lead over the field.
Michigan earned three scores of 9.925 or better on beam as Mulligan led things off with a 9.925 and Wilson matched it in the three spot. Brooks anchored with a 9.950 to tie for first in the event as U-M scored a 49.450 as a team and headed into the final event with a 147.750 running score.
U-M continued to build on its lead in the final rotation as Guggino led things off with a 9.925 and Bauman followed with a 9.900 in the fourth spot. Brooks once against paced the Wolverine with a 9.950 as Michigan notched a 49.350 in the final rotation of the day and a team score of 197.100 for the victory.
The Wolverines kick off their 2024 season on Friday through Sunday, Jan. 5-7 when they travel to Las Vegas, Nev., for the Super 16 meet.
