
Michigan to Open Season at Mean Girls Super 16 Gymnastics Championships

The No. 6-ranked University of Michigan women's gymnastics team kicks off its 2024 season heading to Las Vegas, Nev., for the Mean Girls Super 16 Gymnastics Championships on Friday (Jan. 5) at 7 p.m. PST at the Orleans Arena. The Wolverines will compete against No. 1 Oklahoma, No. 9 Kentucky and No. 11 Michigan State on day one of the two-day event.
Notes
• Michigan comes into the 2024 season as the No. 6-ranked team in the WCGA Preseason Poll and was picked to win the Big Ten Championship by the conference's coaches after capturing its 27th title in 2023.
• The Wolverines return 11 letterwinners and add graduate transfer McCaleigh Marr (Penn) along with freshmen Kayli Boozer, Ava Jordan and Haylen Zabrowski.
• Grad students Sierra Brooks and Gabby Wilson make their returns for a fifth year. Brooks is the 2023 AAI Award winner and a seven-time WCGA first team All-America honoree, while Wilson is a four-time WCGA All-America honoree.
• Brooks and Wilson, along with seniors Carly Bauman and Naomi Morrison, were voted as team captains for the 2024 season. Brooks is a three-time captain, while Wilson will be a captain for the second straight season and Bauman and Morrison will be first-time captains for the Wolverines.
• Head coach Bev Plocki enters her 35th season at the helm of the Michigan program. She holds the most conference titles of any Big Ten coach in any sport and is a two-time national coach of the year and a 13-time regional coach of the year.
• The Wolverines wrapped up a five-part series, Michigan Made, which is an all-access look at the months leading up to the Wolverines' 2024 campaign. Weaving coach and student-athlete interviews with behind-the-scenes practice footage and a look at life outside the gym, the series will give an unparalleled look into the historic program and those committed to continuing the winning legacy of Michigan women's gymnastics.
