LEESBURG, Fla. -- Junior RHP Jessica LeBeau tossed her first collegiate no-hitter as the University of Michigan softball team exploded for nine runs in the sixth en route to a 9-1, six-inning win over Portland State in its THE Spring Games finale on Sunday morning (Feb. 12) at the Sleepy Hollow Sports Complex.
LeBeau (2-0) struck out nine PSU batters and allowed just four total base runners on three walks and an error. The Vikings scored on the latter, using a three-base throwing error and sac fly to spoil the shutout bid in the sixth, but LeBeau responded with two strikeouts to close out the game.
The Wolverines scored the entirety of their runs in the top half of the sixth, plating nine on six hits and three PSU errors. Graduate student outfielder Lexie Blair posted two hits and two RBI in the frame, while sophomore outfielder Ellie Sieler also drove in two.
Michigan capitalized on two Viking errors in the first three at-bats to push across the game's first run. Freshman second baseman Indiana Langford reached on a throwing error, advanced two bases on a sac bunt and scored on a fielding error by the PSU third baseman. Junior catcher Keke Tholl, graduate student designated player Melina Livingston and Sieler all followed with RBI hits, including a double by Tholl to the right center gap and a two-run Sieler single to right.
After U-M scored on another error, graduate student Hannah George sliced a pinch-hit RBI single down the rightfield in her first Wolverine at-bat and Blair ripped a two-run single into center in her second plate appearance of the inning.
The Wolverines (4-1) will return to the Sunshine next weekend with a five-game appearance at the TaxAct Clearwater Invitational at the Eddie C. Moore Complex in Clearwater, Fla. Michigan kicks off the event with two games on Friday (Feb. 17), facing UCF at 3 p.m. and Louisiana at 6 p.m.; both games will be streamed live on ESPN+.
