
Richard Earns Runner-up Finish in All-Around on Day One of Winter Cup

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Freshman Fred Richard of the University of Michigan men's gymnastics team earned a runner-up finish in the all-around competition on day one of the USA Gymnastics sanctioned Winter Cup on Friday (Feb. 24) at Freedom Hall.
The second-place finish for Richard solidifies his spot on the United States Senior National Team, as the top-five all-around finishers secure spots. The rest of the squad will be named following day two of competition on Sunday (Feb. 26).
Richard won both floor exercise (14.483) and high bar (14.962), in addition to scoring a 14.450 on parallel bars to finish sixth and a 13.357 on pommel horse to finish 10th. He compiled a mark of 84.602, placing second behind all-around champion and former Oklahoma Sooner Yul Muldauder (85.342).
Graduate assistant coach Cameron Bock compiled a 78.850 to finish 10th in the all-around, with his top score coming on high bar where he scored a 13.550 to place fifth. Freshman Landen Blixt finished in 11th, narrowly behind Bock with a 78.400. Blixt marked a trio of ninth-place finishes on floor (13.500), parallel bars (13.800) and high bar (13.200).
Junior Javier Alfonso competed in a trio of events, highlighted by a third-place finish on still rings (14.150). Sophomore Rithik Puri came in 21st in the all-around with a total score of 70.950.
Individual event finals will be held during Session II of the Winter Cup on Sunday at 5:30 p.m. and will be streamed live on the USA Gymnastics YouTube page.
