
Michigan 4x100 Relay Sets School Record to Cap Black and Gold Invitational

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The University of Michigan women's track and field team closed the first meet of the outdoor season Saturday (March 18) at the Black and Gold Invitational at the UCF Soccer and Track Complex. The day was highlighted by a record-setting 4x100 relay team finish.
With a 44.70-second time, Aasia Laurencin, Savannah Sutherland, Hanna Hearn and BreeAna Bates came in a competitive race, with the Wolverines finishing in third place. The 44.70 bested the previous record of 44.78 set last season at the NCAA East Preliminaries by a team that also included Hearn and Bates. Michigan also got a second top-10 finish in the 4x100, with Ziyah Holman, Nikki Stephens, Trinity Henderson and Sophie Isom claiming sixth place in 45.43.
Holman and Laurencin earned top-10 finishes in the 100-meters after running the 4x100 relay earlier in the day. Holman took sixth with a time of 11.67, an all-conditions best. Laurencin took ninth place with a time of 11.87.
Also on the track, multi-event athlete Clare McNamara set an outdoor best in the 800 meters, running a 2:14.20 and crushing her previous best by seven seconds. After running unattached during the indoor season, Delaney Stersic took 22nd place in the 400 meters with a time of 57.30, her season's best.
Next up for the Wolverines will be the Florida Relays from Thursday through Saturday, March 30-April 1 in Gainesville, Fla. Michigan will compete primarily in sprints and hurdles events.
