GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Split squads for the University of Michigan women's track and field team closed out the second day of competition at UF's Florida Relays Saturday (April 1) at the Percy Beard Track Facility, as well as day two of action at the Stanford Invitational at the Cobb Track and Angel Field.
The day was highlighted by a school record from Ziyah Holman in the 400 meters and a second-place finish in the shot put by Corinne Jemison.
U-M at Florida Relays (Day 2 of 2)
Holman continued to excel outdoors, setting an outdoor school record and career best in the 400 meters with a time of 51.21 to finish third overall. The time, which ranks third in the NCAA and first in the Big Ten, also overtook Holman's own previous school record of 51.25, which she set at the 2022 NCAA East Preliminaries. After breaking a school record in the 200 meters just yesterday (March 31), the junior holds a total of four school records. Sophie Isom (27th, 55.63) and Delaney Stersic (37th, 57.17) also competed in the event.
Corinne Jemison also had a successful day, with the highest finish for the Wolverines in a field event. Jemison, who currently holds the outdoor shot put school record, took second in the shot put amongst 21 other athletes. Her throw of 16.51 meters (54 feet, 2 inches) left her only six inches behind first-place finisher Jasmine Van Note (Rutgers). Trinity Franklin and Theresa Mayanja also competed in the shot put, with Franklin throwing 13.50 meters (44 feet, 3.5 inches) and finishing 17th, while Mayanja took 19th, throwing 12.17 meters (39 feet, 11.25 inches).
Nadia Saunders represented Michigan in the triple jump and put out a strong set of jumps, with two 12.32 meter (40 feet, 5 inches) leaps, and her best jump of the day of 12.34 meters (40 feet, 6 inches). It marked a new outdoor best for Saunders, who finished eighth in the event.
Back on the track, BreeAna Bates took thirteenth place in the 100 meters. Her time of 11.56 ranks fifth on the Michigan all-time top ten list. She also holds the fourth place position on the same list -- a feat which she accomplished in 2022. Hanna Hearn also raced in the same event and finished 24th with a time of 11.94.
U-M at Stanford Invitational (Day 2 of 2)
On the west coast, Lauren Fulcher and Amber Gall competed in the 800 meters on day two at the Stanford Invitational. Fulcher's time of 2:14.04 landed her a sixth-place finish in the sixth heat of the event. Gall raced in the fourth heat and took ninth with a time of 2:15.08.
The Wolverines' distance crew will travel to North Carolina next week for the Duke Invitational (April 6-8), held at the Morris Williams Track and Field Stadium.
