
Tran's 1,500-Meter Win Paces Strong Michigan Showing to Open Duke Invite

DURHAM, N.C. -- The University of Michigan women's track and field opened the Duke Invitational on Friday (April 7) at Morris Williams Stadium with a win in the 1,500 meters from Sam Tran.
The 200-meter dash began the Wolverine's first day in Durham with Trinity Henderson finishing 12th overall in 24.91 seconds after a third-place finish in the third section and Delaney Stersic coming in 23rd place after her own third-pace finish in the fifth section.
Michigan had 10 athletes compete in the 1,500 meters. The early session of the race saw Cassie Kearney finish second overall in 4:29.25, just .09 seconds out of first place, after winning her section of the event. Gabby Swider ran a 4:45.28 to finish 41st, while Yasmin Mansi taking 52nd place in 4:49.57.
Michigan's seven remaining athletes competed in the invitational section of the 1,500 meters. Samantha Tran won with a time of 4:18.51. Anna Juul (fifth, 4:21.89), Aurora Rydna (12th, 4:25.12), Samantha Saenz (20th, 4:27.72), Kayla Windemuller (21st, 4:27.87), Ericka Vanderlende (23rd, 4:28.19) and Katelynne Hart (29th, 4:31.83) completed the Wolverine pack in the event, marking the collegiate debut of Juul and Saenz.
Michigan will be back in action on Saturday (April 8) at Morris Williams Stadium for day two of the Duke Invitational. The Wolverines will compete in the 400 meters and 800 meters to end their time in Durham.
