AZUSA, Calif. -- The University of Michigan women's track and field team opened a weekend on the west coast with day one of Bryan Clay Invitational on Friday (April 13), hosted by Azusa Pacific University at Cougar Athletic Stadium.
Theresa Mayanja closed the day leading the heptathlon standings with 3,169 points.
The first event of the day was the 100-meter hurdles, with Mayanja securing an early lead and riding it to a first-place finish in 14.13 seconds. She followed her hurdles win with a tie for third in the high jump, clearing 1.61 meters (5 feet, 3.25 inches). She continued with a second-place finish (12.01 meters; 39 feet, 5 inches) in the shot put, only a quarter-inch shy of first place. In the 200-meter dash, Mayanja finished 11th in a tight race with a time of 25.97.
Mayanja will be joined by the rest of the Wolverines on Friday (April 14), with Michigan competing in three meets down the California coast. U-M will continue with day two of the Bryan Clay Invitational at 7 a.m. in Azusa, the Mt. SAC Relays at 9 a.m. PDT in Torrance, and the Beach Invitational at 11:40 a.m. PDT in Long Beach.
