Bryan Clay Invitational
Theresa Mayanja closed out the heptathlon with a fourth-place finish (4,983 points) and competed in the long jump, javelin throw, and 800-meter run on Friday. She finished 10th in the javelin with a throw of 32.04 meters (105 feet, 1 inch) and 25th in the long jump with a leap of 5.09 meters (16 feet, 9.25 inches). Her long-jump performance was an outdoor best. The final event of the contest was the 800 meters, where Mayanja finished 17th with a time of 2:28.24.
Aurora Rynda had an impressive run in the invite 800 meters, finishing eighth in a time of 2:02.69 and earning a top-10 program time in the process in the 129-athlete field.
Mt. SAC Relays
In the sprints and hurdles, the Wolverines saw two top-10 program performances in the 100-meter preliminaries and 400-meter hurdles. BreeAna Bates and Hanna Hearn competed in the 100-meter dash preliminaries. Bates took ninth place in the contest with a time of 11.65 that qualified her for the event final and tied the eighth-best time in program history. Hearn finished nineteenth overall, running a 12.08. Nikki Stephens ran to a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles. Her time of 59.20 is No. 10 in the U-M record book.
Also in the sprints, the 200-meter dash was an all-around success for the four competing Wolverines. Ziyah Holman (23.29) and Savannah Sutherland (23.33) claimed second and third, respectively. Both times are all-conditions bests for the duo, though the wind speed of +3.0 m/s prevented the times from being counted as school records. Aasia Laurencin finished 19th in a career-best 24.32 and was followed by Sophie Isom in 24th place with a time of 24.55.
Corinne Jemison and Trinity Franklin competed in the shot put. Jemison claimed second place with an impressive heave of 16.57 meters (54 feet, 4.25 inches) to place her second on Michigan's all-time top-10 list. The thrower now holds the top three all-time shot-put marks in Michigan history. Franklin also had a solid performance, earning a new career best with a throw of 14.05 meters (46 feet, 1.25 inches). This gave the freshman a 20th-place finish in the 30 athlete event.
In the field, Cate Visscher competed in collegiate group C in the pole vault. She finished in eighth place in her group, clearing a height of 3.60 meters (11 feet, 9.75 inches).
The final event of the day for the Wolverines was the triple jump, featuring Riley Ammenhauser and Nadia Saunders pulling off a pair of strong performances. Both landed Michigan all-time top-ten marks as Ammenhauser took third in the event with a leap of 12.74 meters (41 feet, 9.75 inches) and Saunders ninth after an outdoor career-best 12.43 meter (40 feet, 9.25 inches) jump.
Beach Invitational
Michigan kicked the day off with success from freshman Emma Yungeberg in Long Beach. She competed in her strongest event, the javelin throw, taking first with a career-best throw of 47.80 meters (156 feet, 10 inches), also good for second best in program history and the third best in the Big Ten this season. Yungeberg has continued to improve in the event this outdoor season, holding three of the top 10 program throws. She also has won two of the three javelin contests she has competed in this season.
On Saturday (April 15), the Wolverines will continue their California excursion, with a combined group made up of sprints, throws, and jump groups at the Mt. SAC Relays at 10 a.m. PDT in Torrance. The throws group will take part in the Beach Invitational in Long Beach beginning at 11 a.m. PDT.
