BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Four members of the University of Michigan water polo team were selected to the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) All-Conference teams, the league announced Tuesday (April 25). Kata Utassy and Erin Neustrom were first-team selections, while Alex Brown and Ava Morrant earned second-team nods.
Utassy and Neustrom headlined the first-team selections for the Wolverines. Utassy was named to the first team after leading the conference in goals (72), assists (54) and points (126). This season, she was the fastest player in Michigan water polo history to reach 50 and 100 points. Neustrom is second on the team in drawn exclusions with 61 and just broke the school record of career-drawn exclusions with 251.
Brown and Morrant were named to the second team after impressive regular-season showings. Brown leads the team with 304 saves and is 12 away from breaking the school record for most saves in a senior year. Morrant is third on the team in points with 57 and has a shooting percentage of .471 on the season so far.
Michigan is the No. 2 seed for the upcoming CWPA Tournament, which takes place Friday through Sunday (April 28-30) at Princeton in Princeton, N.J. The Wolverines will face the winner of Harvard and Bucknell on Saturday (April 29) at 2 p.m.
