The Wolverines did not compete in any events at Penn Relays Friday (April 28) but will resume action Saturday (April 29).
Michigan began the day in the field, with Theresa Mayanja in the javelin. Mayanja had a strong six-throw series, putting out her best throw of 37.28 meters (122 feet, 4 inches) on her sixth throw. Her efforts earned a second-place finish, with a healthy lead over her nearest competitor. Mia Manson also saw success in the field, taking third in the long jump behind a career best. Manson's best leap of the day was 5.89 meters (19 feet, 4 inches), though she overtook her previous best three other times within her six jumps as well. The final field event of the day was the high jump, where Gabi Newman claimed seventh place, clearing 1.51 meters (4 feet, 11.5 inches).
Savannah Sutherland, who currently holds the 400-meter hurdle program record, proved her dominance in the event yet again. With a time of 58.10, Sutherland won the 400-meter hurdles with Nikki Stephens finishing closely behind. Stephen's time of 59.75 was also strong, allowing her to secure second place. Meredith Soule and Kennedy Johnson also competed in the event, finishing seventh and ninth, respectively. Soule ran a time of 1:05.70 while Johnson ran a time of 1:07.04.
The Wolverines saw success in their final event of the day, the 200 meters, with three career-best efforts and one program top-ten effort. Laurencin took ninth (24.13), Isom took tenth (24.15) and Henderson took fourteenth (24.26). Mayanja also competed in the 200-meters, her second event of the day, taking 35th with a time of 26.20
