
Wolverines to Host Akron, Travel to Bowling Green

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's soccer team (1-0-1) welcomes No. 22 Akron to U-M Soccer Stadium on Friday (Sept. 1) at 7 p.m. before traveling to Bowling Green Monday (Sept. 4) for its first road test of the season at 3 p.m.

• Michigan comes into week two of the season with a 1-0-1 record after tying Loyola Marymount in its 2023 season-opener on Thursday (Aug. 24) and defeating California Baptist 2-0 on Sunday (Aug. 27) to close out its opening weekend.
• The Wolverines had nine newcomers see action for the first time in their U-M careers as freshmen Will Baker, Duilio Herrera and Matthew Fisher made two starts each and Alex Waggoner scored the game-winner against CBU. Freshmen Murphy Parker, Joao Paulo Ramos and Jonathan Nabaka along with transfers Riley Ferch and Charlie Lawrence also all saw action during the opening weekend for Michigan.
• The freshmen have made an early impact, accounting for 41 percent of Michigan's shots with 12 total and five on goal from Waggoner.
• Graduate student Moshtaba Al-Hasnawi moved to the backline in his final season and helped Michigan to its first shutout of the 2023 season by tallying three points last weekend. Al-Hasnawi scored U-M's first goal of the season and the equalizer against LMU before tacking on an assist in the victory over Cal Baptist.
• Junior Hayden Evans earned the start between the pipes in the first two matches and has six saves so far on the season. He also notched his fifth career shutout and brought his career save total to 98.
